A 36-year-old New Orleans man was arrested after authorities say he kidnapped an ex-girlfriend in St. Rose and drove her towards Metairie. When the victim tried to escape, she told police that she was punched several times.
Donnie Gonzales, of 1732 Alabo St., was arrested last week and charged with aggravated kidnapping and simple battery.
In May, authorities say that Gonzales told the victim that they needed to talk and he drove to St. Rose to meet her at her family’s home. When the woman got into Gonzales’ vehicle, he drove off and headed towards Metairie.
“She repeatedly asked him to stop and let her out but he refused,” Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said. “When she told him she was going to call the police, he took her cell phone and broke it.”
The victim also told police that Gonzales punched her several times when she tried to escape, but that she was eventually able to get out of the car in Jefferson Parish.
She contacted police and was treated for her injuries at the scene.
Gonzales remains in jail with bond set at $50,000.
