Man dies after Highway 90 crash

A Westwego man was killed when his 1999 Chevrolet Suburban ran into a Mack garbage truck at 5 a.m. on Aug. 28.

Vincent Marie, 25, was traveling westbound on Highway 90 in the left lane when his vehicle struck the raised median and swerved to the right. It appears that Marie then over corrected, crossing both the westbound lanes and the median directly into the path of the Mack garbage truck. The garbage truck was driven by Chad Byrd, 40, who was traveling eastbound in the left lane of Highway 90.

When the garbage truck struck the passenger side of the Chevrolet, Marie was ejected from his vehicle onto the roadway.

He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Byrd suffered moderate injuries and was transported to St. Charles Parish hospital for treatment.

Driver impairment is not suspected by Byrd, and impairment on the part of Marie is unknown at this time.

Speed was considered a factor in the crash.
