A 56-year-old Franklinton man was killed after he was ejected from his vehicle while driving over the Bonnet Carre Spillway.
Darrell Magee was speeding in the right lane on I-10 when his Chevrolet struck the rear of a Honda Accord driven by 48-year-old Patrick Dominic. Magee’s Chevrolet continued onto the right shoulder, struck the guardrail and traveled back across I-10, striking the Honda a second time, according to State Police.
Both vehicles then struck the left guardrail and came to rest in the right lane.
Magee, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car and was pronounced dead on the scene by the St. Charles Parish Coroner’s Office. Barbara Taylor, 53, who was riding with Magee, was wearing her seat belt and was treated on the scene. Dominic was also wearing his seat belt and was treated by emergency responders.
Police suspect that Magee was impaired at the time of the crash. A blood sample was taken for toxicological analyses.
