Majoria’s touts homemade specialties, delicious ‘meaty’ party platters

For over 50 years, Majoria’s Supermarket has thrived as a staple of the Boutte and St. Charles Parish Community.

A locally-owned, independent market, Majoria’s has built a reputation as a place where locals can not only visit to buy their groceries but also stick around to chat with neighbors, including the store’s four owners, a quartet of brothers — Barry, Shea Marc, and Dana.

In addition to the owners customers have grown used to seeing the store’s long time employees Anne, Iris, Maria, Jo Ann and Randy.  “All of them have grown to know the customers as well as we do.”  said Dana.

The longtime grocery store has become known for its strong party tray department headed by JoAnn.  If you are in the store it is not uncommon to hear the page “Jo Ann line one”.  That usually means someone is interested in one of Majoria’s delicious party platters.

Overstuffed finger sandwiches, great fried chicken drummettes and tenders, vegetable and fruit trays and meatballs are among the popular items one may serve at their big events via catering.  “When someone takes a bite of our finger sandwiches they get a nice amount of meat in there. That is the Majoria difference” said Dana.

Other specialties that you can find at Majoria’s is a fantastic store made hogshead cheese that is Barry Majoria’s own recipe and over a dozen varieties of fresh sausage including “Cajun Rib Eye” sausage.  If a person likes hogshead cheese, they owe it to themselves to try ours.” Dana said.

“We’ve been doing party trays for a long, long time. Our catering people have maintained the same standard of quality food through the years. Great chicken salad, finger sandwiches … it’s really been a word of mouth thing for us. We get a lot of referrals and people ordering pickups.”

Majoria’s also has dedicated itself to bolstering its online presence, via its website majoriasgrocery.com and its Facebook page.

“We launched our Facebook page a couple of years ago, but I didn’t really do a good job with it,” Majoria said. “But my daughter, Lia, she just graduated from college. That’s right up the alley of someone in their early 20s. She handles our social media and she does a really nice job. She started working with the Facebook page in April and we’ve more than doubled our ‘likes’ since then.”

At the website, one can download the weekly ad that can also be found in St. Charles Herald-Guide and the catering menu and order form. On the Facebook page, there are a couple of posts each day updating customers on store information, like daily specials and recipes.

“I think it opens up an avenue about what we have to offer,” Majoria said. “It’s about interaction with our community. We launched our website around July. It gives us an easy online access for customers to go get our ads.”Majoria said the store stresses quality above all else.

“With all our food, we have great quality control,” he said. “Everything is made fresh. We use a fair amount of product. Give people value for their dollar.

And all of the homemade or store made specialties are very, very good, made with quality ingredients, great flavor and with nice recipes. We also do a homemade BBQ sauce that will make you quit using any other.

“What’s our advantage? Freshness, quality ingredients and the right amount of food for the right price and a great loyal and dedicated staff of employees.”
