Major retailers moving into parish this spring

This spring, residents of St. Charles Parish will have plenty of choices when it comes to buying clothes, shopping for shoes or finding a cell phone carrier.

And of course, who couldn’t use another nail salon?

The Boutte Shopping Center, which will be located off of Hwy. 90 between Wal-Mart and A Storage Inn, will officially break ground soon and is scheduled to be completed sometime this spring. So far, Sicily’s Pizza, Cingular Wireless, Advance America, Nail Salon, Cato, Shoe Show and It’s Fashion have all leased areas in the 33,340 square-foot shopping complex.

There are still five spots open for lease.

“We’re excited to be coming to the area,” Craig Brewer, developer of the project, said. “We would really love to get some local businesses into the center.”

Brewer says that Spectra Group Inc., the company that owns the center, has filed all of the necessary paperwork with parish officials and is just waiting for the permit process to be completed before breaking ground.

Since Brewer is from nearby St. Tammany parish, he feels like construction of this center will allow him to give back to the area he was forced to leave after Hurricane Katrina.

“It’s great to be able to put a center like this into the community,” he said.

Spectra has developed several similar retail centers all over the country, including Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, New York, Oregon and Texas.

Break down of the confirmed businesses in the center along with square footage, which is subject to change by the time the shopping area is completed.
