Local dentist honored

Glaser selected for outstanding service

Boutte dentist Dr. Peter L. Glaser received the Distinguished Service Award from the Louisiana Dental Association (LDA) during its 126th Annual Session on March 25 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Baton Rouge, La.

The Distinguished Service Award is the highest honor bestowed by the LDA and is presented annually to individual members who have exemplified the highest standards of professional conduct in dentistry and have made extraordinary contributions in organized dentistry and their community.

Dr. Glaser has earned this award as a result of his extraordinary contributions to organized dentistry and to his community throughout his 40 years as a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), the LDA, and the New Orleans Dental Association.

After graduating with his doctor of dental surgery degree from the Loyola School of Dentistry in 1963, Dr. Glaser served in the United States Navy Dental Service. He opened a general dentistry practice in Boutte in 1965.

Dr. Glaser held various leadership positions within the New Orleans Dental Association (NODA), including serving as scientific chairman, vice president, president and a member of the NODA board of directors. He was also active in the organization of the NODA Conference and has served as overall chairman, as well as exhibit chairman, scientific chairman and registration chairman. He was a continuing education committee member for the LSU School of Dentistry (LSUSD) from 1980-1998, and has been in leadership positions for many study clubs, including the Eastman Study Group and the C. Edmund Kells Study Club. He was also the registration chairman for ARK-LA-TEX tri-state continuing education group as a representative of the LDA.

Dr. Glaser is also an active community leader. He is the only dentist on the Touro Hospital Foundation Board, as well as a member of Touro’s Quality Control committee. He has also been a board member for the Anti-Defamation League, Jewish Community Center, Loyola City College, Jewish Welfare Fund and the Communal Hebrew School. He is a member of the LSU School of Dentistry Committee of 100 and is a past president of Delta Sigma Delta.

He has three children, Allison, Todd and Dr. Laurie (also a dentist) and one grandchild, Liana.
