The visionary project would directly improve trade for industries located in the River Parishes
The Louisiana Airport Authority board recently approved a resolution that allows the LAA and the Canadian Commercial Corporation to continue the project review of the Louisiana Transportation Center in an effort to speed up the building process. The LTC, described as a multi-modal transportation center that would be equipped to efficiently move people and goods into the world through a comprehensive transportation network, could greatly improve Louisiana’s current foreign trade status by combining air transportation with surface distribution.
The proposed site for the LTC spans approximately 25,000 acres in three westbank parishes from Donaldsonville to White Castle, and would directly improve the trade accessibility for industries located in the River Parishes including St. Charles Parish businesses.
If built, the LTC would help to open up St. Charles Parish business to direct international trade, and would hold a very important role in southeast Louisiana’s international trade market by providing industries, especially the seafood industry, the opportunity to develop a worldwide market for their goods.
“Any opportunity to become international is great…not only for the seafood industry, but also for the state,” said Harlon Pearce, president of LA Fish and chairman for the Louisiana Seafood Board. “The LTC opens up the world to Louisiana, New Orleans and the entire Gulf South.”
Environmental analysis and investment studies are currently underway in to determine whether or not the project will be given the green light.
“The vision for this project is a model for the world and represents a tremendous opportunity for our state and its long-term future,” said LAA Chairman, Glen Smith in last month’s LAA newsletter.
According to Glenda Jeansonnes, LAA executive director, project approval should be determined by February 2007.
