Inmate escapes from correctional center

BREAKING NEWS: It’s happening now

Sheriff Greg Champagne reports that at approximately, 10:00 A.M. this morning, as a group of inmates were returning into the prison from the exercise yard, one of the inmates slipped away from the group and scaled a fence topped with razor wire. He received serious injuries as a result, but was able to get away.

The inmate is Wallace Gabriel, a black male 46 years old. He was being held for Possession of Stolen Property and Resisting Arrest. He was not armed and is not considered dangerous. However, he should not be approached except by law enforcement officers. He is 5’9”, 170 lbs. and has short hair.  He probably has extensive cuts on various parts of his body from the razor wire.

Numerous deputies are on the case and we expect to recapture Gabriel soon. Anyone with any information concerning the whereabouts of Wallace Gabriel should contact the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office by dialing 911 or  783-6807
