Medical insurance for people who can’t get it anywhere else
Louisiana’s High Risk Health Insurance Program has immediate openings for 1,800 applicants who have been denied health insurance by traditional or private health insurance companies.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
– Be a resident of Louisiana for the past six consecutive months.
– Be able to provide at least two written denials of health insurance coverage due to any medical condition and not be eligible for Medicaid, Medicare, or group coverage.
– Not covered currently under any major medical health insurance.
Applicants accepted in this high-risk pool will be provided coverage with major medical health and option seeking care through a preferred organization provider similar to those used by most employers.
This coverage does not include, mental illness, substance abuse, or maternity.
Additionally pre-existing conditions are not covered for the first six months the policy takes effect.

Helping kids stay healthy
Free lunches for children through July 19
Once again the St. Charles Parish Council will be participating in the Summer Food Service program.
Lunch will be served Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. as part of the program sponsored by the Parish government and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Locations serving the lunches can be found in the cafeterias of St. Rose Elementary, E.J. Landry Alternative Center, and R.J. Vial Elementary schools.
The department is funded partly by an ongoing grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture with approximately another $60,000 coming from St. Charles Parish government to keep the program running. The outreach program helps communities provide meals to children age 18 or under as long as 50 percent or more of the students are approved for free or reduced meals. All children in the district are eligible regardless of economic status.
Anyone age 18-25 who are handicapped or disabled and enrolled in a state school could also take part in the program.
The program begins June 4 and runs through July 19 but will be closed for the week of July 4.
The Boutte Christian Academy will also be participating in the Summer Food Service Program starting May 23 and operating through Aug. 10 serving breakfast from 7:30 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Call (985) 783-5025 for more info.
