I-310: Police arrest man for shooting gun

Driver fired multiple shots, witness says

A 23-year-old Houma man allegedly caught a case of road rage on I-310, shooting a gun in the air multiple times after becoming upset with another driver, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Joshua Jones, of 118 Megan Court, was charged with illegal discharge of a weapon from a vehicle and four counts of assault/drive-by shooting.

The incident began on southbound I-310 on June 26. According to Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, Sheriff’s Office spokesman, Jones told authorities he was driving towards Highway 90 when another vehicle began following him too close.

“He told us that he  hit his brakes in an attempt to get the driver to back off of his vehicle,” LaGrange said. “When that didn’t work, he grabbed a handgun and fired it several times into the air.”

At that point, the driver who was following Jones backed off at a safe distance, LaGrange said, and called the Sheriff’s Office.

Jones was arrested shortly after on Highway 90 and no one was injured.

“He admitted to firing the weapon and we arrested him and took custody of the handgun,” LaGrange said.

LaGrange said that this is just another example of how road rage can get out of hand.

“People die or get injured across the country every day because they handle these type of situations inappropriately,” he said. “If anyone in our parish experiences a road rage incident on our roadways, they need to call us immediately.”
