Hwy. 90 robber chased off with machete

A 56-year-old employee of Affordable Used Cars in Boutte chased off a would-be robber with a machete, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The employee was working on a vehicle at the Highway 90 business when he was approached by a black man wearing a dark ski mask. The robber asked the employee to give him all of his money, according to Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, a sheriff’s office spokesman.

“The victim said it appeared the person in the ski mask had a gun underneath his shirt,” LaGrange said. “The victim reached into a nearby storage shed and pulled out a machete.”

The 56-year-old man then ran at the robber while holding the machete and chased him off the premises before eventually losing sight of him. He then alerted authorities.

The suspect was described as wearing a white sweat shirt and dark blue jeans. The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information to call (985)783-1135 or (985)783-6807.

“We’re glad that everything turned out OK, but we encourage victims not to take these matters into their own hands,” LaGrange said. “Money or valuables can be replaced.”
