$13,000 reward offered for information on St. Rose murder
The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s office held a press conference Wednesday morning to reassure the family and the St. Rose community that detectives are doing everything they can to solve the homicide of Hilda Mae Zeringue Warren, 70, on Aug. 13, which was the second murder in the parish this year.
Warren was found when her sister, niece and great-niece returned from bringing school supplies to Cammon Middle School.
“They had only been gone since 11:30,” said Lisa Price, a relative who is overseeing the crime stoppers reward.
When they entered their home, located on Fourth St. in a quite, close-knit St. Rose neighborhood where everybody knows each other, they found Warren lying in the kitchen in a pool of blood.
Police arrived at the scene at 1:02 p.m. and at first classified the incident as a “suspicious death” because it wasn’t obvious she had been shot. An autopsy revealed the bullet and the coroner confirmed that Warren had been shot in the back of the head.
Darlene Smith and Marcus Warren want the person who shot their mother, Hilda Zeringue Warren, captured, and they are hoping a cash reward might help speed up the process.
Nobody has come forward with information.
Although the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office made a vow not to stop until the killer is caught, friends of the family and the St. Rose Community decided to do more by collecting donations to increase the reward offered by Crime Stoppers.
So far, they have collected $500. In addition, Crime Stoppers is offering $5,000, and St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne has donated an additional $1,000 from his own pocket.
“Crime stoppers is gravely concerned with this act of violence,” said Darlene Constanza, a Crime Stoppers’ spokeswoman. “We hope with the increased award of $6500, someone will come forward with information.”
A local business owner who wishes to remain anonymous has donated an additional $6500 to match what has already been collected, making the current reward $13,000.
Contanza said callers always remain anonymous and can earn the cash award upon the arrest and indictment of the suspect. Along, with the money that has already been contributed, the community of St. Rose has taken to the streets, going door to door to ask for additional donations.
Anyone wanting to contribute to the fund can make checks payable to Crime-stoppers (memo Hilda May Warren reward), P.O. Box 12, St. Rose, LA 70087.
