Hospital searching for new CEO

DiGerolamo was on job for 9 months

Nearly nine months after being named CEO of St. Charles Parish Hospital, Anthony DiGerolamo is being promoted within Ochsner and interviews are expected to begin for his replacement.

DiGerolamo, who was named CEO of  St. Charles Parish Hospital in September, has been named CEO of Ochsner Medical Center – West Bank.

Michael Hulefeld, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Ochsner Health System, confirmed the move Tuesday.

DiGerolamo has “expanded medical and emergency services throughout the parish, helped advance the Flight Care program and oversaw the successful opening of Plantation View Medical Offices in Destrehan,” Hulefeld said of DiGerolamo’s achievements at St. Charles Parish Hospital.

Hulefeld also said the hospital has undergone “tremendous progress” under Ochsner, which began managing the hospital district in 2014.

“We are actively working with the St. Charles Parish Hospital Board on a search for a new CEO, and have a thorough transition plan in place to ensure the momentum we have at St. Charles Parish Hospital continues,” Hulefeld said.

John Landry III, who chairs the hospital board that oversees the parish-owned facility, said Ochsner is advertising for applicants and will help screen them for the position. Landry said key strengths they will be looking for in candidates include hospital management experience, education in the medical field and ability to “mix well in the community” since the hospital belongs to the community.

DiGerolamo will remain as hospital CEO until the transition is complete. Landry said interviewing should begin next week.

“Anthony did an excellent job,” Landry said. “We hate to see him go.”

Landry also praised Ochsner management.

“Financially, we’re very stable now,” he said. “Plantation View [medical offices] is right on target to get new tenants, inpatient care is up and we’re working on growing outpatient care.”

He added the hospital is being integrated into Ochsner’s computerized medical network, as well as new doctors being hired.

In September, DiGerolamo replaced longtime CEO Federico “Fred” Martinez who resigned because of health issues. A resident of Harvey, he was chosen in a nationwide search and unanimously approved by the hospital board for the position for his experience with a community hospital.

Martinez ushered in the hospital’s partnership with Ochsner Health System.
