HBO sniper series films in St. Charles

TV show is latest production filmed in the area

HBO is back in St. Charles Parish filming an eight-part series called “Quarry” that will premiere next year.

On Bayou Gauche Island, production trucks could be seen after following the light blue marker signs that were placed along the highway with the initials RPS.

“Quarry” has been in production since March 30. The series will follow a Vietnam sniper named Quarry (Logan Marshall-Green) who has returned to the United States. He faces a less-than-receptive homecoming and quickly finds himself involved in the corruption and killing that exists in his native Mississippi.

Marshall-Green has appeared in several TV series, including “24,” “Traveler” and “Dark Blue,” and in films “Cold Comes the Night” (with Bryan Cranston) and Madame Bovary (with Paul Giamatti).

He has also starred with Peter Mullan, best known for “Trainspotting” and “Braveheart” and Nigerian born, Royal Shakespearian actor Nikki Amuka-Bird, whose credits include British TV series “House of Fools” and “Toast of London.” This marks the second time in two years that HBO has gone down to the bayou to film a series.

In 2014, the HBO show “True Detective” was filmed in Des Allemands, Norco and Bayou Gauche, which gave some acting opportunities to locals.

The base camp for the “Quarry” actors was located at the Bayou Gauche Volunteer Fire Department. It had a lot of space for the actors to pull in their trailers, and they even turned the station into a catering facility.

Fire Chief Shawn Stinnett said it was no problem at all. “We were thrilled they wanted to use our department,” Stinnett said. “We’ve done it before and we welcome them back anytime they want to come out.”
