Hahnville man charged with attempted murder after attack

Accused of stabbing Boutte man, puncturing his lung

A Hahnville man is in prison after being arrested on suspicion of attacking and stabbing another man in Boutte last week.

Rodney Smith, 36, of 373 Smith St. in Hahnville, was arrested Dec. 13 and charged with attempted second degree murder.

He had an attachment from the 29th Judicial Court for a charge of domestic abuse battery.

According to St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Pat Yoes, Smith attacked the victim in the 200 block of Boutte Estates Drive as the latter was headed to his home.

Smith allegedly stabbed him with a sharp object, resulting in a puncture wound to the lung of the victim, who was treated at University Medical Center for his injuries.

Yoes said the two had been involved in an earlier altercation that same night, although he said it is unknown as to what it was about.

Smith is being held at Nelson Coleman Correctional Center on a bond of $50,000. He has an arraignment hearing scheduled for Jan. 10.
