Hahnville knocks out Destrehan, 35-14

Ahmad White ran wild against the Destrehan Wildcats, rushing for three touchdowns and throwing for another in Hahnville’s 35-14 win Friday night.

The Tigers wasted little time getting the jump on the Wildcats, with a two-play scoring drive that spanned 75 yards. Hahnville quarterback Brian Ensminger connected with Desvon Joseph on a 70 yard pass to start off the game, then White scored his first touchdown a play later from 5 yards out.

Destrehan was able to have some success running the ball with quarterback Dillan Dent and running backs Kevin Smith and Mark Trudeaux on their first series, but their drive eventually stalled. Hahnville took over, methodically drove down the field then added another touchdown when White faked a sweep and then pulled up and tossed a 24-yard touchdown to Dontrell Strickland.

On their following possession, Hahnville would stretch the lead to 21-0 when White broke loose for a 42-yard score with 10:19 left in the first half. Minutes later, Hahnville successfully converted a 4th down attempt that set the stage for a 5-yard touchdown pass from Ensminger to Derek Howard to make the score 28-0.

Destrehan didn’t go away quietly though.

With seconds left before halftime, Dent scrambled to his left and found a wide-open Rickey Jefferson in the endzone for a 45-yard score that breathed some life into the Wildcats.

That momentum continued in the third quarter, when Dent and Jefferson hooked up once again, this time for a 73-yard touchdown. But the Tiger defense stepped up down the stretch, coming through with two important plays on 4th down that gave their offense the chance to put the game away.

That’s when White found the endzone for the final time of the night, scoring on a 4-yard run to put his team up 35-14 with only 2:26 remaining.
