Hahnville cypress furniture store goes on display at spring fest

For nine years, Terry and Diane Carter of Hahnville have supplied area residents with quality, custom-made Louisiana cypress furniture.

In 2000, after retiring from  Union Carbide and Kentwood Springs, the couple started their home-based woodworking business, Carter’s Crafts.

“My wife and I retired early in 2000 from the jobs we held for years to follow a dream we have had for a long time,” Terry said. “We  are now making useful things of wood that can be enjoyed for years to come and we are dedicated to producing quality handmade items.”

The Carters stand by their products, pointing out that all their furniture is made only from  select Louisiana cypress wood and assembled with stainless steel hardware.

Their products are also certified by the state as a genuine Louisiana product.

“We make every effort to give you the best quality and workmanship in our contoured and barrel-backed rockers and swings,” Terry said. “We are dedicated to producing handmade items that will last.

“In fact, we have gone so far as to use stainless steel screws, nuts and bolts, and a waterproof glue to hold the thick cypress together to form a very sturdy and rust free item.”

Each piece of wood used to make a Carter’s Crafts masterpiece is purchased from local mills and is cut, routed and sanded to guarantee smooth edges.

“We are proud of our work and stand by our products,” Diane said. “Most of our business has come from local craft shows and by word of mouth, and we’ve never had an unsatisfied customer.”

Carter’s Crafts specializes in adriondack rockers, swings and chairs, single and double lumbar rockers, roll-front swings, swing and glider frames, wooden director’s folding chairs, ottomans and tables – just to name a few.
The couple also have a children’s line of furniture available that includes swings, rockers, chairs and wooden toys.

To see Carter’s Crafts’ quality woodwork for yourself, stop  by Destrehan Plantation’s Spring Festival on March 14 and 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the plantation on River Road in Destrehan.
