Each implicated in shootings in the past year
A Luling man and Destrehan man have each been indicted by a grand jury on murder charges related to separate incidents.
Leonard Celestine, 25, of 1108 Paul Fredrick St. in Luling, was indicted by a grand jury on a second-degree murder count, stemming from the May 18 shooting that claimed the life of 19-year-old Savahn Stewart, also of Luling.
Celestine allegedly shot Stewart after a confrontation between the two escalated. Stewart was taken to St. Charles Parish Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Celestine was reportedly driving a vehicle that was stopped by a St. Charles Parish detective on Interstate 10 northbound later on the night of the shooting.
Jerry Celestine, Leonard Celestine’s brother, was a passenger in the vehicle and was arrested along with his brother for obstruction of justice, principal to second -degree murder and illegal carrying of a weapon.
Leonard Celestine is being held in Nelson Coleman Correctional Facility on $750,000 bond. A court hearing is scheduled Oct. 17.
Jakorey Williams also was indicted by grand jury on a charge of second-degree murder stemming from a shooting on Nov. 19 of last year that took the life of Anthony Fletcher, who was known locally as rapper Anthony “TC” Cole.
Williams, 20, of Destrehan, was arrested in May for his alleged involvement in the shooting of Fletcher, who was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and neck on Meadows Drive.
DNA connected Williams to the handgun believed used in the murder of Fletcher, according to the arrest report. The weapon was recovered from the murder scene at 217 Meadows Drive where “Williams was seen exiting a short time after the shots were reported to be fired.”
It was the second major arrest for Williams, who was charged with attempted murder after he was accused of shooting Javon Wells on New Year’s Day of 2017.
Wells was the man accused — and later convicted — of murdering 18-year-old Destrehan High School student Kendall Williams. The charge against Jakorey Williams related to Wells was dismissed in August of last year, after he was accused of using a shotgun to shoot Wells after a dispute between the two.
Williams is being held in Nelson Coleman Correctional Facility on $750,000 bond. A court hearing was scheduled this week.
