First Choice Credit Union begins $400K renovation

Investing $400,000 in a renovation of its Boutte location, Hahnville-based Total Choice Federal Credit Union anticipates occupying the new building by early November.

“We felt the area deserved it … something really nice for our customers and community,” said Mary Vedros, Total Choice’s CEO.

Work began by demolishing the existing structure (a former restaurant occupied by the credit union for more than 25 years) in June and rebuilding it, Vedros said.

Total Choice has more than 2,400 square feet of space, which Vedros said the plan on occupying by early November.

The Boutte site is one of three that Total Choice has in St. Charles Parish, she said. There are also locations in Hahnville and LaPlace.

Vedros said the credit union is chartered to serve St. Charles, St. John the Baptist and St. James parishes.

The credit union was originally called Taft Carbide Federal Credit Union until the charter was changed and it got its current name.

“We’re really excited about the project and hope everyone takes advantage of what we have to offer,” she said. “Every person who is a member is an owner of the credit union. That makes us different from banks.”
