Des Allemands dad wrote that he would kill School Board members, police say
The parents of two St. Charles Parish students were arrested last week after one allegedly made threats towards School Board members, policemen, firemen and the National Guard.
Police say that Whitney P. Curole III, 39, made threatening remarks on his Facebook page last week and that his wife, Lisa Curole, 40, lied to officers about her husband’s whereabouts. Mr. Curole was charged with terrorizing while Mrs. Curole was charged with accessory after the fact to terrorizing.
According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Mr. Curole wrote on Facebook last week that he could “go postal on everyone on the St. Charles Parish School Board. Bunch of bastards!!!! Kill em all!!! That includes police, firemen, National Guard, bring your a–es over here and I’ll teach you something about the Bill of Rights.”
Capt. Pat Yoes said that the office was alerted by school administration to the alleged threats.
“Someone notified the School Board and the School Board notified us,” Yoes said. “This is kind of unusual. We do find we’re getting more and more activity with things being put on Facebook that we’re having to follow up on, but to my knowledge this is the first time (it has come) from adults.”
Mrs. Curole said that the outburst on Facebook was prompted when the couple’s 9th-grade son was kicked off of the Hahnville High School football team.
“Two weeks ago, our son was kicked off of the football team,” Mrs. Curole said. “The coach was in his face because (my son) was not doing his exercise right – if they do wrong, they do get reprimanded. But (the coach) cursed at him and my son said ‘Why do you have to curse at me?’
“They called him in the day of the game and said he’s no longer on the team because he disrespected them.”
The schools declined to comment on the incident.
The Curoles say that tempers have been building because this is just the latest in a long line of problems they have had with the St. Charles Parish school district. Mrs. Curole said they have been dealing with issues of residency since 1998 and have been trying to keep their kids in St. Charles schools.
Originally residents of St. Charles Parish, the Curoles enrolled their daughter and son at R.J. Vial Elementary and J.B. Martin Middle schools. A short time later, the family moved to just across the Lafourche Parish line in Des Allemands – Mrs. Curole said it is 0.1 miles from St. Charles Parish. Years later, she said her children were kicked out of school because the district found out they were no longer residents. After trying everything they could, the couple finally gave up their custody rights to the children’s paternal grandparents two years ago so that they could legally attend St. Charles schools.
“They say we’ve been terrorizing them by posting something, but they’ve really been terrorizing us,” Mrs. Curole said.
Mrs. Curole said that her family has gone through such efforts to insure her children attend parish schools because St. Charles is the best.
“The schools are wonderful…they are top-of-the-line schools,” she said.
Rochelle Cancienne-Touchard, public information officer for the school district, said that residency is always a serious matter for the district.
“Policy requires us to determine residency…not speaking of anyone in particular – in general we don’t want anyone to take advantage of the system,” Cancienne-Touchard said. “It comes down to the tax payers in this parish who are paying for the education with their tax dollars.”
She said that some teachers in other parishes even offer to pay the difference in taxes so that their children can attend St. Charles schools, but policy does not allow that.
