Family opens snowball stand, youth center

The doors of the parish’s newest concession stand, Four Re’s Delight, opened on July 2, offering residents a wide variety of tasty snowball flavors to help beat the summer heat.

But that’s not all. According to one of the shop managers, Reanda Fields, the family-owned business is now a full-service concession stand with a youth center on the way.

“It’s always been one of my mom Robin’s dreams to open a family business,” Reanda said. “And we are all excited about the opening of our concession stand.”

Nachos, ice cream, snowballs, candy and hot dogs topped with their special homemade chili are just a few of the items that are on the menu, but there’s more services to come, too.

“Within a month we hope to have the youth center part of the organization up and running for parish kids,” Reanda, who is the founder and director of what will be called the Umoja Community Center, said.

Once open, the center,  will be one of several in the Tri-Parish area. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives and morals of youth in St. Charles Parish.

“Our organization is open to all children, but our programs are primarily geared towards teens between the ages of 13 and 19,” Reanda said.

Eventually, teens will be able to visit the center during the summer months and after school to take part in a variety of activities like dance and youth leadership classes.

“The center will include arcade games, pool tables, karaoke and computers,”  Reanda said. “We’ll also offer tutoring, mentorship programs, community service opportunities and senior citizen outreach.”

The Umoja Community Center is seven years in the making, and with a flawless and detailed business plan drafted by the Fields family,  the kids of St. Charles Parish have a lot to look forward to.

“Our dream is to keep growing and expand the center,” Reanda said. “We hope that one day we’ll be able to move into a building large enough to house an indoor community pool and basketball courts.”

The name for the concession stand, Four Re’s Delight,  was derived from the names of four of Terry and Robin’s daughters.

Four Re’s Delight is located on Highway 90 in Luling inside the former Video Bingo parlor. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
