‘Explosive’ thriller set to rock Hahnville

Residents living in Hahnville may hear explosions and see smoke and fire as a thriller starring John Goodman films in the area.

Cast and crew for “Valencia” set up shop at Homeplace Plantation in Hahnville and will remain in town until Tuesday, Dec. 9. During the filming, explosions will occur in the afternoon hours on Dec. 2 and Dec. 4. Smoke will waft over the plantation daily, and the Hahnville shoot will wrap with a fire scene on Dec. 9.

According to imdb.com, “Valencia” centers around a young woman who wakes up in a cellar after a severe car accident and is told she was rescued by a doomsday survivalist. That man, played by Goodman, says that a chemical attack has left the outside uninhabitable.

The woman, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, must decide whether to trust Goodman’s character or escape.

The film is being produced by Bad Robot, a production company owned by J.J. Abrams. Abrams is best known as the creator of ABC series “Lost.” He is also helming the upcoming Star Wars reboot.

It is scheduled for release in 2016.
