East Bank getting bigger Dollar General

Store will have new layout with expanded product offerings

Construction has started on a larger Dollar General store at a site on Apple and Barreca streets in Norco.

Dollar General spokeswoman Crystal Ghassemi said the 10,600 square foot building will include 8,600 square feet or 40 percent more sales space.

The new location will replace an existing No. 1982 store at 33 St. Charles St., also in Norco, Ghassemi said. Employees will relocate there when construction is complete, which she projected could open by late summer.

“The new location will offer St. Charles Parish residents approximately 40 percent additional sales floor square footage that will include a fresh new layout and expanded product offerings including additional cooler doors to allow for more perishable items,” she said.

Dollar General has six stores in St. Charles Parish. Two of them are in Luling and one each in Norco, Paradis, Destrehan and St. Rose.

Ghassemi said each store averages six to 10 employees based on need, which means employment numbers can vary.

“We know convenience is a major factor in our customers’ shopping decisions as we generally serve customers within a three- to five-mile radius, or 10-minute drive,” she said.

“We also take demographic trends, competitive factors, traffic patterns and community concerns into consideration.”
