Early voting begins Saturday

Starting Saturday, St. Charles residents can vote early to decide three local justices of the peace and a U.S. senator.

Early voting gets underway on Nov. 22 and will continue from Monday, Nov. 24 through Wednesday, Nov. 26. Residents can also early vote on Saturday, Nov. 29. Polls are open from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the St. Charles Parish Courthouse and the Arterbury Building.

In District 1, voters will decide between Henry Wolfe and Rick Whitney. Wolfe, who captured 34.7 percent of the votes in the Nov. 4 primary, believes that his education and experience make him the best candidate. Whitney, who had 26.1 percent of the votes, says he has extensive formal education and expedience in dispute resolution, contract negotiation, interpretation and enforcement of property leases.

In District 2, voters will choose between incumbent Earl “Pie” Tastet and Randy Muller. Tastet finished a little more than one percentage point from winning the Nov. 4 primary.

He said he has served the people of District 2 diligently and honorably for 25 years.

Muller, who finished with 38.4 percent of the vote, served as a deputy with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office and said he will utilize his experience and knowledge to serve the residents.

In District 5, Tika Riley is in a runoff with April Black. Riley had 45.8 percent of the vote on Nov. 4 and said her qualifications and experience in the legal profession have prepared her to handle the issues of the justice court.

Black, who finished with 40.38 percent of the vote, also touts her legal experience, which she says has prepared her to administer justice in accordance with the laws of Louisiana.

Additionally, voters will also help decide a new U.S. Senator between incumbent Mary Landrieu and Bill Cassidy. Some residents will also vote on a new representative for the 6th Congressional District between former Gov. Edwin Edwards and Garret Graves.

There is also a runoff in for PSC District 1 between incumbent Eric Skrmetta and Forest Wright.
