Destrehan woman charged with biting off victim’s eyelid

A Destrehan woman has been charged with second- degree battery stemming from an incident where she allegedly bit another woman’s eyelid off.

Nadia Matimoju, 35, of 206 Meadows Dr. in Destrehan, was arrested after a verbal altercation with another woman, Tralanda Payne, also of Destrehan, that reportedly escalated into a physical encounter on the driveway of Matimoju’s home, according to St. Charles Parish police.

That scuffle allegedly climaxed with Matimoju biting the right eye of Payne, resulting in Payne fleeing from the scene to receive medical attention.

A hospital examination revealed her lower eyelid had been bitten off and surgery was needed.  According to the police report, Matimoju admitted to biting Payne.

Matimoju has been released from Nelson Coleman Correctional Center on a $40,000 bond, with the provision she have no contact with Payne or Payne’s family. Her arraignment is scheduled for March 4.
