Rouses Markets is coming to Destrehan.
The grocer announced Monday that it acquired 10 grocery store locations in Louisiana and Mississippi from Southeastern Grocers, LLC, the parent company of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket.
The Winn-Dixie at 12519 Airline Highway in Destrehan will convert to a Rouses Market in 2026.
Rouses Markets said it will bring its focus on fresh Gulf seafood, hand-cut meats, Cajun specialties, chef-inspired prepared foods, signature bakery items, and fresh produce, along with an expanded selection of local and regional products to the stores.
The Winn-Dixie stores will remain open throughout the transition period. As each location converts to Rouses Markets, stores will close for a short period before reopening under the Rouses banner.
Rouses Markets is encouraging all Winn-Dixie team members to join the Rouses family, which has more than 7,000 team members, and said its committed to making the process straightforward and easy.
Donny Rouse Jr., CEO of Rouses Markets, said in a press release that the grocer’s goal is to make the transition as smooth as possible.
“The team members who know these stores and their customers best are an important part of what makes them successful,” Rouse said in the release.
With the addition of the 10 new locations, Rouses Markets will operate 76 stores across Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
“These locations in New Orleans East, Destrehan, Franklinton, Gramercy, and Central, Louisiana, and Hattiesburg, Mississippi are all areas we have looked at for a long time,” Rouse said. “We are also strengthening our presence in Marrero, Covington, Mandeville, and Kenner, which continue to grow and are important markets for us. Our goal is to make it easier for more customers to shop with us close to home.”
All 10 stores will be remodeled over the next few years, but the company plans major remodels at the Hattiesburg and Central stores and will begin developing those plans immediately after the transition. These projects will include upgrades to store layouts, equipment and design to reflect the Rouses Markets shopping experience and a focus on fresh departments.
Southeastern Grocers announced in October that it is rebranding to The Winn-Dixie Company by early 2026. The company announced a renewed focus on its home state of Florida and its decision to sell most of its locations outside of the state.
Anthony Hucker, chairman and CEO of Southeastern Grocers, said in a press release that the company was thankful to its associates and customers in communities beyond Florda.
“We will do everything we can to support those who supported us, ensuring this transition reflects the gratitude and respect they deserve,” he said.
Rouses Markets was founded in 1960 in Houma, Louisiana, by Anthony J. Rouse, Sr., Donny Rouse’s grandfather. Today, Rouses Markets remains family owned and operated.
