Destrehan man dies after wrestling with younger cousin

A 24-year-old Destrehan man died after being put in a choke hold by his younger cousin on Sunday night, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

According to witnesses, Stephan A. Arceneaux III was watching a pay-per-view wrestling event with the 14-year-old when the two began to wrestle on an inflated mattress in front of the television.

The juvenile, who was 5’6, 110 pounds, put Arceneaux (5’10, 220 pounds) in a choke hold by putting his arm around Arceneaux’s neck and squeezing.

According to witnesses, Arceneaux said that he wouldn’t give up or “tap-out.”

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the juvenile had Arceneaux in a choke hold for 30 to 40 seconds when someone noticed that Arceneaux was turning blue and told the juvenile to release the hold.

Without hesitation, witnesses say that the juvenile released the hold but then realized that Arceneaux had stopped breathing.

At 10:04 p.m. patrol deputies arrived at the home in the 200 block of Murray Hill Drive and found that Arceneaux was being given CPR by his girlfriend. Arceneaux was transported to St. Charles Parish Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives are still investigating the incident and there have been no arrests made.
