Des Allemands man charged with home arson

Facing obscenity charge when connected to crime, police say

A 43-year-old Des Allemands man was arrested and charged with an arson that destroyed a shed and caused extensive damage to a home on Matherne Drive last May.

Alan Lancaster, of Matherne Drive, has been in jail since May 2012 after he was allegedly seen masturbating in public, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office. While he was locked up at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center, deputies say they found items on his property that connected him to the May arson.

Police originally believed that a fire that burned down a shed and spread to a home attic was due to electrical problems. Further investigation revealed that it was arson, Capt. Pat Yoes, spokesman with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, said.

“Items from other incidents found on his property developed him as a suspect. He was interviewed in the correctional center where he was being held on the charges of indecent exposure, which occurred around the same time,” Yoes said. “During his interview he admitted his involvement.”

In addition to simple arson, aggravated arson, simple criminal damage under $500 and public masturbation, Lancaster also faces a peeping Tom charge.

Yoes said the incident that led to the peeping Tom charge also occurred on Matherne Drive but no other information was available.
