A Boutte couple was arrested after deputies received a tip that they were growing marijuana plants inside their home, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Kevin Shane, 35, and Brooke Drain, 26, both of 110 Woodland Court, were growing marijuana plants inside a closet of their master bedroom, according to spokesman Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange. Authorities found 128 grams inside the residence, which has a street value of over $1,000.
Three children, ranging in ages from 1 years old to 9 years old, were also in the home.
Items used to cultivate marijuana, and a muscle relaxant called Carisoprodol were also discovered, as were scales and bags used to package marijuana, LaGrange said.
“We believe they were distributors,” he said. “We were acting on a tip we received, and after we found enough evidence that they were dealing marijuana from the home, we executed a search warrant.”
LaGrange said that the marijuana growing operation was not a sophisticated one, but something the couple likely figured out how to do by reading about it.
Shane and Drain were both charged with possession of marijuana, manufacture and distribution of marijuana, possession of Carisoprodol and three counts of illegal use of a controlled substance in the presence of a juvenile.
