Council also decided to delay plans for a new subdivision in Luling because there are no street lights for it.

“Three C’s Properties wants the truck depot in my district and as it stands there is enough eighteen-wheeler traffic,” April Black, council chairwoman, said.

Council also agreed to table acceptance of the 73-lot Lakewood West subdivision in Luling.

“There are no street lights installed and we need to hold off on this until we can get this taken care of,” Council Member Ram Ramchandran said.

Parish officials said they can get the street lights installed in a couple of weeks and get the subdivision back on track.

In other business, council approved:

– A $30,000 contract with the German Coast Farmers’ Market Inc. to provide educational and other services to the parish.

– A resolution asking the parish Library Board of Control to investigate the possibility of using a historic American Legion Hall in Des Allemands for a satellite library.

Council member Snookie Faucheux said he wants to see whether the parish can obtain grants to refurbish the property for that use.

There is no library in the Des Allemands, Bayou Gauche and Paradis area, although the parish is negotiating with Chevron for a property that could be used for a new library near the intersection of U.S. 90 and Bayou Gauche Road.

Library officials acknowledge the area needs a library, which historically has been “underserved.”
