Council accepts two nominees for hospital board seat

The St. Charles Parish Council accepted two nominees for the St. Charles Hospital Board seat vacated by John Landry III, who was forced to leave the position.Hahnville attorney Jake Lemmon was nominated by Councilman Dick Gibbs at Monday’s council meeting. Richard Dufrene of Bayou Gauche was nominated by Councilman Paul Hogan.

Hogan said he was hoping the position would be filled by a concerned citizen with considerable knowledge and experience.

The council confirms appointment of Hospital Board members while the board elects a chair and vice chair.

Landry, who served as board chairman, was forced to leave the position effective Sept. 14 as part of an agreement with the parish District Attorney’s Office.

The Luling businessman had been arrested and charged with falsifying records and conspiring to file falsified records in June in connection with former DA Harry Morel Jr.’s federal case, but was enrolled in a Pre-Trial Intervention Program that will allow him to avoid prosecution if he meets the terms of the agreement that included resigning from the board.
