A Luling woman was arrested by Louisiana State Police and charged with three counts of identity theft after allegedly charging several items from a television-shopping channel in another woman’s name.
Vanessa Greenup, 37, 1212 Paul Frederick St., was arrested May 15 at her home by State Police.
The arrest followed an investigation into the identity theft of Garylene Villenurve that police said revealed Greenup had ordered “numerous items” through the cable shopping channel QVC in Villenurve’s name. She then, it is alleged, had them shipped to her home in Luling, Lt. Lawrence McLeary said in a statement about the case.
Villenurve reportedly said she had been the victim of identity theft for several years, a situation that finally prompted her to go to the authorities, reports said.
State Police executed a search warrant for Greenup’s residence on Paul Frederick where they located a Samsung widescreen LCD television, a Lexmark all-in-one printer and a TomTom GPS navigation system, all purchased from QVC in Villenurve’s name.
Investigators also discovered documents showing multiple accounts opened by Greenup in the victim’s name as well as three Direct TV receivers which may lead to additional; charges, according to McLeary.
State Police urge all citizens to take precautions and protect their identity by shredding personal and financial documents before throwing them away.
