If indulging in the latest clothes and fashion accessories, like trendy handbags and shoes, is at the top of your to-do list, then look no further than Destrehan’s newest boutique, Runway Clothing, Shoes and Accessories.
After all, new shipments arrive weekly and shop owner Brandy Nichols, 23, points out that her inventory is always updated with the hottest fashions.
“Locals can shop here and not have to worry about all their friends wearing the same pair of jeans or top,” Nichols said. “We will never order the same item twice.”
Names brands like Miscope, Astra, Ocean Drive, Be-Girl Jeans and Pierre Dumas are just a few of the items you can find lining the shelves and hanging on the clothing racks at Nichols’ Longview Drive location.
Nichols says that opening a clothing boutique has always been a dream and feels that now was the perfect time in her life to do it.
“I was born and raised in St. Charles Parish and I wouldn’t open a business anywhere but here – my home,” Nichols said.
“I decided that I wanted to be headquartered in Destrehan, so when my husband and I saw a vacant spot while driving around one day, we called immediately. I knew if I didn’t get the spot, then I’d always regret it.”
The doors of Runway first opened on May 23, but a lot of hard work and long hours precluded the opening.
“I met with the shopping center landlord the day after I spotted the location, and I ran around like a chicken with my head cut off from then on,” Nichols said. “I got all my permits and licenses together and took a trip to Atlanta to check out the market.”
Nichols, who graduated from Hahnville High School in 2004 and studied business management at Delgado Community College, says that her business prides itself on low prices and great customer service.
“Every customer gets greeted as soon as they enter the store and we start a dressing room for them as soon as they choose their first item,” she said. “We encourage all customers to bring their children. We’ll entertain while they shop.”
Nichols hopes to one day be able to expand her business to also have an online store, but until then, catering to local shoppers is her top priority.
“Business has been great. I’ve had a lot of new customers and a lot of referral customers,” Nichols said. “But many residents still are not aware that we are open for business.”
Runway is located at 124 Longview Dr. Ste. 15 in Destrehan next to Popeye’s Fried Chicken. Store hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
