Charges dropped against Destrehan woman who shot husband

Woman says she fired shot to stop beating

Charges have been dropped against a Destrehan woman who admitted that she shot her husband.

Robin Adams, 54, was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder after shooting her husband on New Year’s Eve. Adams told police she fired the shot to stop her husband from hitting her, according to the arrest report.Adams said that her husband was taking medications that made him verbally and physically abusive toward her. On New Year’s Eve, Adams told police that her husband began hitting her and throwing her around the kitchen.

During a two-minute break in the beating, Adams said that she went into her bedroom and grabbed a .32 caliber revolver from her dresser.

She returned to the kitchen and found her husband sitting at the table. According to Adams, her husband said, “Well, you’re gonna have to shoot me because I’m about to f*** you up.”

Adams responded by firing a shot into her husband’s chest. She claimed that she didn’t intend to kill her husband, but just wanted the abuse to stop.

The couple’s son told authorities that he wasn’t surprised that his mother shot his father because she has had to deal with “constant abusive actions.”

Though Adams said she shot her husband to stop him from hitting her, she was charged with second-degree attempted murder because she had an opportunity to flee the home but instead grabbed a gun.

However, Adam’s husband recently asked the St. Charles Parish District Attorney’s Office to drop the charges against his wife.
