Card reader device found in Racetrac ATM in St. Rose

Customers advised to check bank accounts

A “skimmer” or device that records credit card numbers was found on an ATM at the Racetrac at 512 Almedia Road in St. Rose.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office is encouraging all residents who have used this ATM recently to check their bank account for any suspicious activity.

A Race Trac employee reported the device to the Sheriff’s Office.

A skimmer illegally collects data from the magnetic stripe of a credit, debit or ATM card. This information, copied onto another blank card’s magnetic stripe, is then used by an identity thief to make purchases or withdraw cash in the name of the actual account holder.

Anyone who comes in contact with a skimmer device is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office immediately by calling (985) 783-6807 or 911.
