Candidates to air out issues during forum

Eleven candidates for public office have been invited to speak in a public forum that will be held at Hahnville High School on Oct. 4.

Each candidate will be asked at least two questions, with one coming from the St. Charles Herald-Guide and the other being asked by the River Region Chamber of Commerce and the St. Charles Business Association. Both organizations are sponsoring the Meet the Candidates forum.

Parish President V.J. St. Pierre Jr. and Councilman Billy Raymond, who are both seeking the parish’s highest office, have been invited. Other candidates include Tab Troxler and Councilman Terry Authement, who are both running for Assessor, and Clerk of Court candidates Charlie Oubre, Lance Marino and Fenwick Swann III.

Additionally, four candidates for the parish’s two Councilman At-Large seats have been invited. Those include current Councilwoman At-Large, Division A Carolyn Schexnaydre and her challenger, Jeanne Hall, along with Clayton “Snookie” Faucheux and Kenny Schmill, who are both running for Councilman At-Large, Division B.

Brent Madere, the president of the St. Charles Parish Business Association said that the candidates in each race will be asked the same questions.

“We want it to be fair, so we want them to both respond to the same questions so that people can see where they stand on similar issues,” he said.

Each candidate will have three minutes to introduce themselves and will be given two minutes to answer each question. Madere said that the forum will not only allow the business community to see where the candidates stand on issues important to them, but will also give residents the ability to judge candidates on broader issues.

“This is an important election,” Madere said. “This forum will give voters the opportunity to hear the candidates and get a view of their vision of the future.”

Meet the Candidates will begin at 6 p.m. in the Hahnville High School auditorium.
