On the morning of July 23, when store manager Connie Gainer arrived at the Luling Pit Stop, she found someone had broken into the Hwy 90 convenience store. When Gainer, and store clerk Raymond J. Comardelle, Jr., entered the store on Sunday morning, they couldn’t open the storage room door.
“We pushed on it real hard a couple of times and finally got it open,” Comardelle said.
Debris from the ceiling was blocking the storage door, preventing it from opening.
Once the employees discovered the debris on the floor, they left the store and called the police.
Deputies noted three ceiling tiles missing from the southside of the room and a fourth tile was halfway missing.
“I noticed that the control panel that triggers the alarm was opened,” Comardelle told the Herald-Guide.
“We didn’t have anything missing,” he continued.
“I guess whoever tried to do this must have gotten scared off by something,” he continued.
Gainer said that nothing was taken.
“We were lucky this time, we had nothing missing,” she said.
“We have noticed increased police patrol in the area since we reported this,” she continued.
“I do get a little nervous especially since we open the store early in the morning, but with the extra patrols I do feel safe.”
