Bridge accident claims life of Luling woman

A Luling woman is dead after the Honda CRV she was driving collided with a Mack garbage truck that had run out of fuel on top of the Hale Boggs Bridge, according to the Louisiana State Police.

38-year-old Misty Carroll was traveling northbound on I-310 when she ran into the garbage truck, which was stopped in the right lane. A state police investigation revealed that the Honda struck the rear of the Mack truck with minimal breaking. It was also learned that the truck, which was owned by Ramelli Waste LLC, had run out of fuel prior to stopping in the right lane.

Carroll, who was traveling with a 6-year-old passenger, was transported to St. Charles Parish Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The passenger was treated for minor injuries and released.

State police say that neither one was wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Mack garbage truck, 29-year-old Knollie Jones, was not injured in the crash.
