Garbanzo Mediterranean Fresh set to spice up Boutte area food scene

Boutte will soon be home to St. Charles Parish’s newest Mediterranean restaurant, Garbanzo Mediterranean Fresh, occupying commercial space at 13771 Highway 90.

The new Mediterranean franchised restaurant is often described by news outlets as being a Middle Eastern take on the Chipotle restaurant model, offering choose-your-own protein options along with standard items like hummus and tabbouleh instead of salsa. The owner of Garbanzo’s currently pegs the new restaurant’s tentative opening date for some time in November or December.

“Garbanzo’s is a Mediterranean concept restaurant; it features food from all across the Mediterranean – from Egypt to Greece to Morocco,” Garbanzo – Mediterranean Fresh Director of Marketing Mark Kreiner explained in an earlier interview. “It’s a build-your-own concept where people can come in and choose anything from what we call a handheld- things like a stuffed pita or a gyro – or a plate or bowl; they can make their own salad that they build on their own including all of our amazing ingredients.”

Garbanzo’s local menu will feature items like stuffed signature pitas, wraps, gyros, rice bowls, salads and plate options.

Founded in 2008, Garbanzo’s is a franchised chain of Mediterranean restaurants with its headquarters based out of Denver, Colorado, operating around 40 stores throughout the country as of press time.

“Garbanzo’s is a leader in the Mediterranean food concept – it is growing very rapidly, so we want to stay ahead of the game,” Kreiner said. “People are really understanding the health benefits from clean food, and how much flavor there is with the Mediterranean diet.”

While the restaurant currently operates in 13 other states, the Boutte site will be the chain’s first Louisiana location. The new Garbanzo’s restaurant will be owned and operated by local franchisee Tony Alhusseini, who already owns another well-established hospitality-related business within St. Charles Parish.

Operating hours, which may change later, are expected to be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, with special hours on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
