Boutte man sentenced on charge of cruelty to juvenile

Originally charged with 5 counts of aggravated rape

A Boutte man has been convicted on one count of cruelty to a juvenile after reaching a plea deal.

Kermit Washington, 38, was sentenced to five years in prison. Of that time, three years of that sentence suspended and received credit for time served.

Washington was indicted on five counts of aggravated rape and two counts of sexual battery.  He was accused of raping a single victim over five years until he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge last week.

Washington was arrested in May of 2015 after St. Charles Parish police received an anonymous tip. Investigations by the Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana Department of Child and Family Services led to his arrest.

Washington must attend an evaluation and pursue any recommended treatment for sexual offenders. He was fined $250 plus court costs and must pay $20 for monthly supervision. He has been ordered to have no contact with the defendant.
