Bayou Gauche absorbs rash of auto burglaries

Over 15 unlocked vehicles were burglarized in the Bayou Gauche area near Edna Drive between the hours of Thursday night and early Friday morning, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Patrol deputies were initially dispatched to the first report of a vehicle burglary at approximately 4:18 am Friday, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Pat Yoes. Once those deputies were on scene, the Sheriff’s Office received several more reports as residents began to go to their vehicles in the morning for work. Crime scene technicians and detectives arrived on scene shortly after to aid in the investigations.

Anyone with home surveillance systems in the area of Bayou Gauche is asked to review recorded video footage and contact the Sheriff’s Office to report any suspicious activity. Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is asked to contact Detective Jody Weems at 985-783-1145 or contact the non-emergency number for the Sheriff’s Office at 985-783-6807.

Sheriff Greg Champagne also extended a reminder that everyone to lock the doors to their sheds, garages, vehicles, and homes when left unattended to curtail the threat of robbery.
