A Boutte resident was struck with a weapon several times during a home invasion in which men ransacked her home searching for money.
The 45-year-old woman’s husband, who wears hearing aids, was asleep throughout the ordeal.
The woman told St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Officers that responded to the scene that she was sitting in her bedroom at about 1 a.m. when she heard footsteps. When the woman walked out of the room she was grabbed by one of the robbers in the hallway. The man, who was wearing a black hood, blue bandanna, black socks and colored shoes, told the woman that he had a gun before taking her into the living room and throwing her onto the sofa.
The woman’s hands were then tied behind her back and a pillow case was put over her head. When one of the men removed his bandanna to tie the woman’s hands, she was able to get a glimpse of his face, according to Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange. The man then began hitting her on the head with a pistol.
The robber then asked the woman where the money was and told her that he was going to kill her if she didn’t tell him. When the woman told the robber that she didn’t have any money, he kept on repeating that she was ‘gonna die for a little bit of money.”
While she was tied to the couch, the woman says she heard at least two other men ransacking her residence. About 15 minutes later, she was told by a male voice to stay quiet or die.
The woman told police that she then felt cold air and heard the door open. She got up, closed the door and went to wake up her husband.
When an officer arrived on the scene minutes later, he saw a black male walking towards the residence. The officer, who knew the man as Maurice Honor, placed him in handcuffs. Shortly after, the same officer saw a tan van parked in front of the house with two men sitting inside. The officer ordered the men out of the vehicle and secured them in handcuffs.
“I guess they figured they wouldn’t get caught,” LaGrange said of the men’s decision to wait right outside the scene of the crime.
The two men were identified as 28-year-old Jason Hill and 20-year-old Kyron Hill. The men, both of whom live in Boutte, are cousins. The woman positively identified K. Hill as the man that grabbed her and tied her up.
Bail for the two men was set at $300,000 each and it is unclear if anything had been taken from the residence. The woman was treated for lacerations and bumps to her forehead.
