9-year-old tells police she was molested at park

Suspect is convicted sex offender

A 9-year-old girl said she was molested by a 53-year-old convicted sex offender while playing at Monsanto Park, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The girl, who had gone to the park with two family members, was alone when she was approached by Gus J. Williams, of 1107 Paul Fredrick St. in Luling. When the girl returned home from the park, she told her mother that Williams had fondled her, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange.

The girl was brought to the Sheriff’s Office where she described the ordeal in detail. LaGrange said that there was no indication that intercourse occurred.

“She was able to describe the suspect and was able to identify Gus Williams as the person who had fondled her,” LaGrange said.

Williams, who was convicted of carnal knowledge of a juvenile in 1998, was brought in for questioning and charged with sexual battery.

“He is a registered sex offender and this was a pathetic act,” LaGrange said. “We hope the courts deal with him accordingly.”
