14-year-old booked on child pornography charges

Had several images on computer, police say

A 14-year-old St. Rose boy was arrested after authorities say he downloaded several pornographic images of young girls.

The images were discovered by the St. Charles Parish Sex Crimes Unit, which scours the internet to discover people in the area who download child pornography. To track down child pornography, an officer observes file-trading sites. These sites, such as Napster and Limewire, allow users to trade pictures, music and videos online.

Forensics were performed on the 14-year-old’s computer, and several images of known child pornography were discovered, Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, spokesman for the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, said.

LaGrange said that even though the boy himself was a juvenile, the Sheriff’s Office treats it as a criminal offense.

“It will be up to the prosecutors and judges to determine if there is enough evidence to prosecute,” he said.
