Women’s Club gives locally

The St. Charles Women’s Club held its annual club year end luncheon and announced which organizations would receive funds from the money they raised throughout the year.

During the club year, the members raised just under $19,000 to give back to the community.  The organizations that were recipients of the funds were:  Catholic Charities, Creative Family Solutions, Pink Ladies, United Methodist Church, St. Charles Social Concerns, United Way of St. Charles, St. Anthony Outreach, St. Charles Community Chorus, St. Vincent DePaul Society, German Coast Farmers Market, CASA of St. Charles and LA Artist Association.

There were seven high school students receiving the 2011 Scholarships. DeJa Fobb from Destrehan High School was awarded the $500 Vo-Tech Scholarship.  Receiving the $1,000 academic scholarships were: Callan Johns, Elise DeBruler, Nicholas Corzo and Savanna Barbee of Hahnville High School, Kiera Lane of Destrehan High School and Brennan Ferguson of Ursaline Academy.   The students present thanked the club and gave a synopsis of where they would be attending school and their goals.

New club officers were installed by the outgoing president Debbie Deal.  The officers for the 2011-2012 year are: Joan Belcher, President;  Betty Claudet, First Vice-President; Ann Haydel, Second Vice-President; Choyer Parker, Recording Secretary;  Judy Burstock and Terry Holmes, Co-Corresponding Secretaries; and Patty Picard, Treasurer. The St. Charles Women’s Club is a non-profit, civic and social organization.

It closed its club year with 140 members.
