Winn-Dixie’s courtesy clerk has got this one in the bag

Long-time employee Craig Blackburn pops the question to girlfriend

Pat Ehrle announces the engagement of her son Craig Blackburn, 28, to his long-time girl friend Heather Hancock, 24, of Moore, Oklahoma. Craig, who has down syndrome, and his family will be the first to tell you that Craig’s successes are not outside the realm of possibilities for all of our children.

For those that don’t know Craig, he holds down a part-time job at Winn Dixie in Luling, Louisiana, has a career as a national public speaker and has spoken to groups of well over 1,000 – bringing the house down each time.

He received his regular high school diploma and passed the graduate exit exam, graduating from Hahnville High School in 2000 with the support of his parents who fought for and insisted on an inclusive education for Craig in St. Charles Parish.

Craig and Heather met at a National Down Syndrome Congress Conference on July 19, 2002 and their friendship has grown over the past five years to one of love.

A wedding date has not been set but will, most likely, occur in two to three years.

There are challenges to face and work through and, as their friends, we ask for your prayers in their ability to meet their goals.

Craig’s mother wanted to share the pictures from the engagement this past weekend of Craig and Heather at the 2007 National Down Syndrome Congress Conference in Kansas City.

Congratulations to both Craig and Heather. We wish you both the best and all the happiness in the world.
