Two commended in scholarship programs
Sherman Jones was recently named a semifinalist in the 2012 National Achievement Scholarship Program. This program recognizes academically promising African American students throughout the nation in addition to their participation in school and community activities, leadership abilities and educational goals.
John Paul Talman has been named a commended student in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program. He is being recognized for his exceptional academic progress and ranks among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the competition.
HHS students on all-state choir
The following Hahnville High School students who were accepted into the American Choral Director’s Association All-State Choir: Katie Abadie, Seth Abadie, Heather Bergeron, Austin Breaux, Jordan Dang, Kaylee Foret, Erin Freese, Thomas Jones, Marcus Kalbacher, Aaron Kenner, Trey Levy, Mathieu Picard, Brittany Schaubhut, Brayan Stewart-Bennett, Ivan Stroup, and Christopher Sullivan. The concert for the American Choral Director’s Association All-State Choir will be on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the First Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, starting at 2:30 p.m.
David Angeles wins Hispanic Recognition award
Congratulations to Hahnville High School Senior, David Angeles, who was selected as a 2011-12 National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) Scholar. The NHRP was initiated in 1983 to identify outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students. David was selected from a pool of over 235,000 students who took the 2010 PSAT/NMSQT/PAA test.
