DHS grad completes pilot training

Second Lieutenant Scott D. Ball has completed the USAF Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training at Columbus AFB, Columbus, Miss. Ball was the only pilot in Class 12-03 of 22 students who was awarded to pilot multiple aircraft. He has been assigned to McGuire AFB, Wrightstown, New Jersey, and is currently attending water survival training and SERE training at Fairchild AFB, Spokane, Washington.

Ball is a 2005 graduate of Destrehan High School. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the USAF and was awarded a pilot slot in the Air Force upon graduation from the United States Air Force Academy on May 26, 2010.

Ball’s SUPT graduation and the “Silver Wing” ceremony was celebrated by family members and friends. Those attending included his grandfather, Louis Affeldt of Destrehan, his grandmother Deanna Butler of LaPlace, Edith Asfahl of Riceville, Iowa, Richard Butler of Pittsboro, Ind., Michelle Butler of Metairie, Sonny Ringo of Baton Rouge and Lt. Col. Webb and his wife Gail of Luling.

Destrehan native honored by LSU

Brittany Bruno, a Destrehan native and graduating senior at LSU, was one of 10 graduates awarded the prestigious University Medal, given to those who graduate with a perfect grade point average.

Bruno received the medal during a ceremony held at the LSU Faculty Club in December.

Local woman named Dance Masters president

The Louisiana Association of Dance Masters recently held its 81st annual banquet and executive board installation ceremony at the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza in Kenner.

Duanne Cazalot, of Destrehan, was named the organization’s 2012 chapter president. Cazalot, wife of Al Cazalot and owner of Dance Unlimited of the River Parishes, has been a member of the organization for 13 years. She has served in numerous capacities including 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Recording Secretary, Representative and Petite Miss Dance Coordinator.

She has attended and participated in the Dance Masters of America National Convention hosted throughout the country for the past 14 years.

Ama native makes MSU honor list

Sharday White, an Ama native, made the President’s List at MSU in Lake Charles. To be on the President’s Honor List, a student must earn at least a 3.5 gpa while carrying 15 semester hours. White was also on the list in Spring 2011 and Fall 2010.
