VFW Post takes the prize

The St. Charles VFW Post 3750 won numerous awards at the VFW State Convention in Alexandria.

The post recently won Buddy Poppy Increase Award, Outstanding Buddy Poppy Participation, Voice of Democracy Award, Patriot’s Pen Award and VFW Excellence Award (participating in the following programs – Youth, Safety, VOD, PP, POW-MIA, Service to Veterans, Hospital and Community Service).

The post also won Outstanding Community Service Program Activities, 100 percent Membership Award, National Desert Storm War memorial Bronze Level Donor Award and Community Service Record Book – Honorable Mention.

Additionally, it received third place Buddy Poppy Display Category 1, All State Post for Department of Louisiana – 1 of 6, co-Captain of the Department of Louisiana All State Commander and Quartermaster Team and VFW National Outstanding Community Service Special Project Citation for Troops for Youth Bow Shoot.

The post also was recognized for Outstanding Department Citizenship Education Activities as department Chairman; Department of Louisiana Commanders Gold Award, and Outstanding Community Service Reporting – Recordbook.

Post Commander Bobby Lovergne was elected as the Junior Vice Commander for the Department of Louisiana VFW and Joyce Edler was elected as the State Guard for the Auxiliary for the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The Buddy Poppy display was created by Lovergne and Duddy Fremen. Poppies were painted by John Skaggs and Charles Cancienne, and the base of the project was constructed by Perry Muller.
