UW’s ‘community investment’ in the arts

Considered part of its “community investment,” the United Way of St. Charles is again sponsoring a free River Region Drama’s Theatre Workshop as way to bring theater to individuals who might not have it otherwise.

“River Region Drama Guild theater workshops are important to our community because they provide an opportunity for individuals who may not otherwise have the opportunity to learn about theater first hand,” said Kacy Kernan, United Way’s director of community impact. “It’s important to keep these workshops free because this gives everyone the opportunity to participate – regardless of their ability to pay.”

The workshop will be held four evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 8 and end Tuesday, Sept. 29 at the River Region Performing Arts and Cultural Center, 15146 River Road, Norco.

The workshop is open to novices and veterans 16 years of age and up who want to take to the stage, enjoy theater games and improvisation.

Kernan added, “Participants will learn the basics of stage acting in a non-competitive and validating environment where energy, laughter, and fun are key elements.”

Last year’s workshop drew more than 30 participants.

Kernan advised anyone interested in participating to register early because the workshop does typically fill up fast.

Kernan said United Way of St. Charles is proud to support the RRDG workshops as part of our annual community investment, which it has done for several years. In addition to the theater workshops, United Way of St. Charles also sponsors many other River Region Drama Guild events and programs.
